KIA Secondary Division
Welcome to Kunming International Academy Middle and High School, serving grades 6-12. Our goal is for students to grow mentally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually. The student body is representative of a rich and diverse international culture. We have students from 23 different nations that come together for the united purpose of obtaining a quality education.
Our strong academic offerings include Advanced Placement (AP) classes and five levels of Mandarin language study. For students who are not yet fluent in English, but meet the minimum language requirement for admission to KIA, our English Language Learner (ELL) program is available to provide support.
Middle School (grades 6-8) has the following characteristics:
· A “self-contained” school with its own schedule and set of teachers
· Students have homeroom teachers for at least three core classes to create a secure, small learning community
· During the non-core enrichment classes, grade levels are mixed to create a larger middle school community
· Project-based learning is emphasized during science and social studies courses
· Cross-curricular learning activities are developed and presented
· Emphasis of foundational mathematics and English language arts courses, including two classes of English language arts at each grade level
In high school (grades 9-12), a greater number of courses and activities are available, including AP courses, Student Government, drama, and various sports. Beyond the required courses, students can select at least two courses they are interested in. To graduate, students are required to fulfill the graduation requirements that prepare them for university study.
KIA’s qualified staff has a wealth of educational and intercultural experience, and is excited about serving the expatriate community in Kunming.
